Simply put, stone restoration is the process of making worn, tired natural stone look brand new, customized to the look you want.
The process itself is complex and varied, depending on the type of stone, its condition and the desired finish. But essentially, in our case, it involves using mechanical abrasion (known as diamond grinding) to level uneven stones, remove scratches and other surface damage and rejuvenate the stone face. Then, using powders and buffing pads, the stone may be manipulated to produce the desired finish.
The 5 –Step Process:
Evaluation: We will inspect and evaluate the condition of your stone. Upon completion, we will help you to determine the finish that fits your life style and décor as well as which sealer if any should be applied.
Restoration: Our experienced technicians, using time-tested products and state-of-the-art equipment, will restore your stone to its original beauty. Restoration generally includes moving and protecting furniture, cleaning / stripping, honing (the abrasive process that removes residue and blemishes to achieve a smooth satiny surface), polishing and sealing.
Grinding / Leveling (blending high areas) may be necessary to achieve a uniform surface and appearance.
Protection: Many stones are susceptible to stains from coffee or soft drink spills, soiling from foot traffic, oils and a plethora of other environmental factors. It can be protected against these stains by the use of an impregnator (sealer). An impregnator is an integral part of an ongoing, proactive stone care program. The use of a quality impregnator to protect against stains and dirt penetration is a cost effective measure in the long term care of natural stone. It will not alter the finished appearance of the stone in any way.
Maintenance Training: By training you and/or your cleaning people on the care of your natural stone, we hope to help you protect your investment for years to come.
Periodic Follow up: Even with proper protection, the new beautiful appearance of your stone is not permanent. Where there are people and environmental factors, there will be wear and tear. A periodic maintenance program will ensure a beautiful floor at all times and prevent the need for a complete restoration in the future. We will work with you to design the maintenance program that fits your budget and your stone’s needs.
The Consultation:
How long your stone restoration takes depends on several factors – a rule of thumb (though there are plenty of exceptions) is one to three days. Prior to the appointment day, we will ask for a signed contract and a deposit.
The Price:
Each stone restoration is different and must be estimated and priced on an individual basis, after the evaluation and testing of the stone is complete.
